The Novel was initially entitled Ima no Musashino, which, however, was published as Musashino in 1901. Doppo found the ordinary scenery of the Musashino Plain was full of poetry and described his tranquil state of mind in nature. He also depicted Japan in the Middle of Meiji Era, which had experienced changes and reformations.
