This trend is based on the recognition of the unique psychosocial problems faced by such siblings. In the present study, we investigated the adaptation of siblings of disabled children from the aspect of self-competence and social adaptation. The results showed that elder siblings had a higher self-assessment of learning competence than younger siblings, and that brothers had a higher self-assessment of competence for self-esteem than sisters. In addition, some siblings tended to have responses on the competence and social desirability scales that deviated greatly from those of the general population.
